The United Nations working group on missing persons has finalized its report after concluding its meetings with leading politicians and government functionaries, family members of missing persons and members of the civil society. The UN delegation visited several cities during its 10-day visit to Pakistan, and met several political leaders and government functionaries. However, the chief justice of Pakistan and senior military leadership refused to meet the group, saying the issue of missing persons was sub-judice.
Sources said the mission had prepared its report on the facts and causes of enforced disappearances, adding that the report would be presented in the meeting of UN Human Rights Council. In its report, according to sources, the delegation expressed disappointment over no meetings with the judiciary and military authorities. The group will hold a formal press conference today with reference to its visit to Pakistan.
