At least eight people were killed and 26 others injured in a powerful bombing on Kohat Road on Wednesday.
Those injured included three civilian employees of Pakistan Air force, women and children. Doctors at Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar confirmed receiving seven bodies, while one of the injured succumbed to injuries before getting first aid.
They said 26 others had been received injured and 10 among them were in a critical condition. Witnesses said the explosion took place when an explosives-laden car parked along a road in Scheme Chowk Badhabher was detonated. The explosion damaged a number of cars in the surroundings, including a passenger bus of Pakistan Air Force.
Police officials present at the scene of the blast were hesitant to clearly say whether the PAF vehicle was target of the attack, but a spokesman for PAF said, “The PAF vehicle was the target.”
Talking to reporters, the spokesman said three civilian employees were on board the vehicle that was targeted. All three have been admitted to Combined Military Hospital for treatment.
Assistant Inspector General of Police Shafqat Malik said around 40 kilograms of explosives had been fitted to the car and it was detonated remotely.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The targeted locality of Peshawar is adjacent to Darra Adam Khel and Bara tehsil of tribal belt, where the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban and other militant groups hold sway.
