The Little Art group in collaboration with Teacher’s Resource Center, is holding 4th International Children’s Film Festival. Held at the Ali auditorium at the Ali Institute of Education, the ceremony marked the second day of the six-day long film festival in which 86 films from 32 countries will be screened.
The organizers said the festival is aimed at enhancing media literacy of young people, fostering children’s creativity and imagination by showcasing the very best in filmmaking for and by children and young people.
The event is part of our efforts to nurture innovative arts education projects for children and young people in the country, they said.
The Little Art Group that initiated one of its flagship projects as Lahore International Children’s Film Festival (LICFF) in 2008 and tested its outreach last year while taking it to Karachi and Islamabad will be holding the festival in six cities across Pakistan in 2012.
The festival is to be held on different dates in Peshawar, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Karachi and Rawalpindi, is expected to attract 0,000 children and young people this year, with the celebrations of world cultures created for the children of all ages.
“We have been able to bring thousands of children to our festivals by screening educational and entertaining films from across the world,” said Shoaib Iqbal, the festival director.
He said the festival would also encourage local filmmaking.
Iqbal said that last year around 18,000 children had been part of the festival and 1,000 children had attended the first day of the festival.
“Focus is that each and every city would be given a new look on the ways to entertain and educate the future generation, while experiencing a global perspective made especially for children and young people,” said the organizers.
They urged parents to bring their children to experience the magic of world cinema for children and young people to the festival.
The partners for all the festivals scheduled to held in six different cities of the country include Embassy of the Netherlands, Embassy of Germany, Groupe Development, Idara-e-Taleem-o-Agahi (ITA), Teacher’s Resource Center (Karachi), Peace Niche (Karachi), Agriculture University (Peshawar), Sir Syed Memorial Society (Islamabad), Annemarie Schimmel Haus (Goethe Institute) and others.
Students from the University of Management and Technology, the University of Central Punjab, Kinnaird College, Beaconhouse National University, the University of Engineering and Technology and the National College of Arts have volunteered at the festival.
