The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is moving slowly to verify the academic credentials of its employees as most of the officials are reluctant to submit their degrees.
It should be mentioned here that the former Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani in March last year ordered the verification of the academic credentials of all federal government employees within two months. The deadline was later extended for another 90 days to August 8, 2011. However 13 months later the CDA had barely started the process.
An official of the CDA said that degree verification was aimed to trace out appointments on fake degrees and the academic credentials of the staffers had been forwarded to educational boards and universities concerned. However, three fake degrees had been caught so far.
The Security Directorate was tasked with verifying the certificates and degrees of the employees working in grades 1 to 16 while grade 17 and above would be verified by the Human Resource Directorate, said an official.
During the scrutiny, Secondary School Certification (SSC) degree of a tube well operator was found fake and a show cause notice was issued in this regard to the official. Moreover, middle certificate of a security guard and SSC and F.A degrees of another security supervisor were also found to be bogus.
Sources said that some officers were holding fake degrees and diplomas particularly a number of the in-service sub-engineers who had acquired B.Tech degrees without attending classes.
It is pertinent to mention here that there are more than 14,000 employees of the CDA, out which 1,800 are working in grade-16 or above. But a year after the deadline of verification of certificates and degrees, the civic body had barely started the process.
