After being away on sick leaves over the past few weeks, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Chairman Rao Qamar Suleman has resigned from his post, according to media reports on Tuesday. “After Suleman’s resignation, Captain Javed Younis has been appointed as the acting chairman of the PIA,” media reports quoted sources as saying. Suleman, a former chief of the Pakistan Air Force, was appointed as the chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of the country’s national airline in May this year.
PIA spokesman Sultan Hassan has confirmed Rao’s resignation; however, he did not reveal the reason behind his decision. Sources said that Rao had decided to step down from the hot seat because of illness, while other sources claimed that he was having differences with the Defense Ministry.
