In a ceremony of the Islamabad King Sejong Institute (KSI) at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) on Tuesday, the State Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) Chaudhary Ghias Ahmed Mela said that the KSI is another milestone to serve the cause of producing skilled human resource which is very essential for the sustainable growth and development of any country.
He said that skill nourishment had been more vital for a country like Pakistan, as a major percentage of its population was in the working age, adding that the potential of this segment of the population needed to be harnessed properly.
Speaking at the occasion, the Korean Ambassador to Pakistan Choong-Joo Choi declared that the establishment of the KSI at the NUML was a significant achievement in many ways for those who wanted to empower themselves with a new language, culture and way of thinking.
Choi said that participation in a program of this institute would give learners a great opportunity to avail the many scholarships awarded by the Korean government and society for the promotion of cultural and academic ties. “Apart from providing cognitive development, economic opportunities and financial benefits of studying Korean, this program is an excellent diplomatic initiative. I am happy to see the strengthening of cultural ties and especially people-to-people interaction”, he added.
Moreover, the NUML Rector Major Gen (R) Masood Hasan in his welcome address said that the way forward to narrow down the gaps between countries was through language and culture, adding the KSI was a step in the same direction.
He also told the audience that it was their proud privilege that out of 70 institutes of the world only 14 got selected for the registration of KSI, and the NUML was one of them.
Besides, students of the Korean department presented a funny Korean skit which revolved around an individual who did not know the Korean language and was facing difficulties in acquiring a Korean visa.
