Three alleged robbers were killed in a purported police encounter in the Chuhng police precincts, the third in two days. According to Saleem Mukhtar Butt, deputy superintendent of the Anti-Car Lifting staff of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), the police have set up pickets on eight different places at exit points of the city to prevent stolen cars from leaving the provincial capital.
Butt said that on Tuesday, CIA Inspector Shakeel and his men were manning the picket at Chuhng when they signaled six men riding on three motorcycles to stop for checking. He said that instead of stopping, the motorcyclists opened fire on the police. He said that the police personnel returned fire, killing three men instantly while their three accomplices managed to escape. The dead bodies have been sent to the morgue while efforts are being made for their identification.
