Iron covering of the Committee Chowk underpass nullah has broken, causing damages to the vehicles plying on the road but the authorities concerned are not paying any heed towards the matter. The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) earlier completed the carpeting of the road from Mareer Chowk to Naaz Cinema Chowk but it did not repair the nullah fence. The RDA officials claimed that the repair of the Benazir Bhutto Road (BBR) was not their responsibility. The residents of the area alleged that all the provincial authorities, including the RDA always remained ready for the renovation of the roads because they could mint millions of rupees as commission in the road repair projects. They said the RDA officials were also ready to install cat-eyes on the speed breakers for the same reason but were not prepared to repair the damaged iron covering. The residents demanded of the elected MNAs and MPAs of the city to provide some funds from their allocations for the repair of the nullah coverings, saying some one would have to take the responsibility and the elected representatives were the first to be answerable to their electorates.
