Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan has said that Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases had been equipped with latest medical equipments and machinery so that the heart patients could avail better medical facilities.
He said this while inaugurating the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) at Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases.
Those who accompanied him on this occasion include Dr Sagheer Ahmed, the health minister, MNA Shaikh Salahuddin, KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed, Director Medical Services Dr AD Sajnani, Director General Technical Services Altaf G Memon, Acting Executive Director Dr Tahir Hussain, Dr Siraj-ul-Haq, Dr Ashraf Siddiqui and other cardiac physicians and officers.
The governor said this hospital was providing best medical facilities to the poor and deserving citizens and we must always make it sure that the organizations become strengthened and the public service work is carried on.
This hospital has now become the symbol of Pakistan as heart patients from different areas of Karachi and from other cities of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan visit this hospital. Construction of a 240 bedded hospital complex was also underway where people suffering from heart ailments would get even better treatment facilities.
While giving a briefing, Karachi Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said the CCU-II of KIHD had been provided with dialysis machines, ECG machines, 15 monitoring machines, three ventilators and a portable x-ray machine whereas the CCU was made centrally air-conditioned so that the heart patients could all medical treatment facilities under one roof.
He said more than 0.7 million patients were provided with medical treatment facility in the KIHD during the last six years. This figure includes the angioplasty of over 12,000 patients and heart bypass operation of 200 patients. More than 42,000 patients were admitted in this hospital for medical treatment.
A sum of Rs 20 million was incurred on the purchase of machinery for the KIHD. High powered electric generators were installed in the hospital for nonstop supply of electricity with the fixing of new phases to ensure round the clock running of machines.
