Violence claims seven lives, 26 suspects arrested

Several incidents of violence in the metropolis claimed seven lives on Friday, police sources said.
One man was killed and six others injured in a grenade and firing attack in New Karachi area near Allahwali chowk. The police sources suspected that motive behind the attack could possibly be extortion related. Another person died of gunshot wounds near Meena Bazaar in Pir Colony area of the city.
In a separate incident, a man was killed and another injured when some unknown gunmen opened fire on them near Bait-ul-Mukarram mosque in Karachi’s Gulshan e Iqbal area.
Two other innocent lives were lost in the city’s Khokhrapar and Ayub Goth areas.
Meanwhile, Saddar Police also claimed to have killed two suspected bike-snatchers after an encounter near Capri cinema in Saddar. The suspects were fleeing after snatching a motorcycle from the area. A ten-days-old body was found in a nallah in Pak Colony area.
It has also been leant that the Karachi police in their on-going drive against criminals has arrested 26 suspects during the past 24 hours.
According to a police statement, those arrested included three absconders. It said that there was one encounter of the police with the suspected criminals and four gangs of the miscreants were also busted during the period. The statement said further that the police recovered 13 pistols, two daggers and a mobile phone from their possession.
