Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has condemned the Federal government for not registering its dissent over the “blasphemous” film with the US government.
He said that the scandalous film defames the Prophet (PBUH) and it is incumbent upon the American government to proceed against those who intentionally spread hate amongst religious factions. He said that hate crimes are punishable offences in the U.S and the U.S government cannot hide behind the “freedom of expression” excuse.
Imran added that western governments get away with half baked excuses because the governments in the Muslim world only express tepid dissent which never mirrors the sentiments of their citizens. He said that it is time that the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) takes a common and unyielding stance that the Muslim “Ummah” would not tolerate slanders and defamations against Islam or the Holy Prophet (PBUH). He added that all such acts are hate crimes and it is incumbent upon governments to take legal action wherever they take place. If a concerted action is missing, said Imran, “the Western governments will continue to hide behind fake freedom of expression excuses which are not even defendable under American law”.
