Police gun down bike snatcher but his partners flee unharmed

Police shot dead a fleeing robber after a hot pursuit in Model Town late Friday night, while his two accomplices succeeded in escaping. According to details, Zahid Butt, a resident of Faisal Town, was passing near Nawaz Sharif Park on his motorcycle, when he was intercepted and stopped by three men riding a bike. They took him on gun point, snatched his motorcycle, mobile phone and thousands of rupees, and fled from the scene. Moments later, a team of Model Town police driving through the area appeared; Butt signalled it to stop. He told the cops about the robbery upon which they headed for the chase.
They intercepted the escaping robbers near Model Town Cricket Ground, and after an exchange of fire, shot dead one of the robbers. However, his accomplices, taking advantage of the night, succeeded in escaping. Upon getting the news of the police encounter, a heavy police contingent headed by Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Rai Muhammad Tahir reached the area. Police has sent the robber’s dead body for autopsy, and started search for the remaining ones. Police said it had recovered the looted motorcycle, mobile phone and cash from the possession of the killed robber. Elsewhere in Quaid-e-Azam Estate Area, two armed motorcyclists looted Rs 4.1 million from a local resident, Ejaz, who was heading home after withdrawing the money from a nearby bank. In another incident of robbery in Chuhng area, three robbers stormed the house of Faqeer Hussain, and escaped with Rs 800,000 cash, gold jewelry and other valuables.
