No CT scan machines in major hospitals

Contrary to the claims of the Punjab government to provide healthcare facilities to the poor, CT scan machines in all the major hospitals of the garrison city have been out of order for years due to the government’s apathy, forcing the public to get expensive tests on manifold exorbitant charges from private hospitals and laboratories.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan machine at Holy Family Hospital is dysfunctional for the last five years and the same machine at Benazir Bhutto hospital is not functional for years causing immense problems to the masses despite allocation of funds of billions of rupees to the hospitals by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
The only functional CT scan machine at the state-run hospital has now gone out of order from last two days adding to the public’s woes.
“We are trying our level best to repair CT scan machine as soon as possible to provide relief to general public,” deputy medical superintendent of the hospital said. Allied hospitals sources said that over 100 patients on daily basis get these tests from private hospital at exorbitant charges as the facility was not currently available in any stat-run hospital of the garrison city.
