8 killed in Khyber Agency violence

At least eight people, including a woman and two children, were killed and another four were injured in two acts of violence in Khyber Agency on Thursday. Officials and tribal sources said a vehicle hit an improvised explosive devise (IED) in Toda Valla area of Landi Kotal. They said five militants, including four Afghan nationals, were on board the vehicle. The IED explosion completely destroyed the car and killed all men inside. Tribal sources said the militants were associated with the banned Jaish-e-Mohammad.
The IED was believed to have been planted by militants from Lashkar-e-Islam, a rival militant group of Jaish. Meanwhile, three people, including a mother and her two children, were killed and four others injured when a mortar shell hit a house in Akakhel area of Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency on Thursday. The injured were rushed to a hospital at Peshawar, where two were said to be in danger. Tribesmen said security forces were engaged in shelling suspected hideouts of militants in Akakhel area when the incident occurred.
