A fire broke out in a building in Gujranwala’s Satellite town area on Wednesday. The blaze that broke out due to short circuiting was noticed around 7pm. It reportedly burnt Taj Plaza into ashes. However, no casualty was reported. A man, Suleman was rendered unconscious due to the heavy smoke but his condition was said to be out of danger. Plaza owner Sheikh Shafique was not available for comment.
Talib Hussain told Pakistan Today that the plaza was illegal and orders to demolish it had been given three months ago. A source on the request of anonymity told Pakistan Today that Gujranwala Housing Department Director Zafar Pracha and Sub-engineer Muhammad Younis were given orders to demolish the plaza but they had not done anything to implement the orders. He said Ramzan and Najeeb, the building inspector of the City District Government and building inspectors of Nandipur town were responsible for the land and building commercialization. The source said the fire was a drama staged by them to get the insurance money.
