A preliminary report of the fire that engulfed a shoe factory in Lahore will be presented to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif today (Thursday).
The fire that broke out on Tuesday killed 25 people.
According to reports the fire started when sparks from a generator flew into chemicals used to make shoes, while factory workers were powering on the generators after the electricity supply went out. Some workers died of suffocation while others were burnet alive.
The generators were installed in the garage of the factory compound, which was also the only entry and exit point of the factory.
Firefighters broke into the factory by demolishing the main wall of the compound. The injured were rushed to Mayo Hospital and the dead were shifted to the city morgue.
Many people in Lahore have set up shoe factories in residential areas. Many of the factories are ill-equipped and often lack fire safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and sprinklers.
