Bail pleas rejected in secretariat storming case

A division bench of the Lahore High Court rejected bail applications of 17 employees of the Population Welfare and Family Planning Department (PWFPD) on Monday
The division bench comprising Justice Sagheer Ahmad Qadri and Justice Ch.Shahid Saeed was hearing five petitions filed by 17 employees of (PWFPD) who broke into the civil secretariat and damaged official property.
The accused Kamran Ali Nadir, Jamshed Ali, Muhammad Ishaq, Zagham Abbas, Rana Ayaz, Abdul Hameed, Muhammad Tariq, Abdul Sattar, Zafar Waseem Dar, Muhammad Imran, Muhammad Ikram, Muhammad Muzzam, Muhammad Akbar, Tariq Jameel, Abdul Sattar, Muhammad khan and Muhammad Asim had approached the court for post-arrest bails.
The defense lawyer told the court that petitioners were innocent and were not nominated in the FIR but their names were added later through supplementary statements.
However, Deputy Prosecutor General Abdul Samad told the court that the employees had violated terms and conditions of their employment codes and had committed treason by storming into the Civil Secretariat.
The prosecutor added that the act falls under section 6 of the Anti-terrorism Act.
The bench after hearing the arguments of both parties dismissed the bail applications.
