Authorities begin checking factories for fire safety

After the dreadful incidents of fire in factories in Karachi and Lahore, the authorities have started checking factories for measures against fire outbreaks and other mishaps in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) officials visited factories in I-9 and I-10 sectors of the federal capital to inspect measures against any untoward incident, especially fire outbreaks. They directed them to make sure the presence of fire-extinguishing instruments in the factories and to install emergency exits in every building.
The civic authority urged the owners to make their factories as worker friendly as possible and to educate the employees about safety measures.
The Tehsil Municipal Authority (TMA) Rawalpindi officials also visited factories and asked the owners to ensure emergency management systems in the units. They asked the management of the factories to train their workers to avoid and, in case of any accident, cope with the mishap. The authority appealed to the citizens to report illegal and congested factories to the TMA so that lives of the workers and the residents could be saved by sealing the factories and making the owners to shift them to industrial areas located at appropriate places.
