Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Tuesday expressed grief over the devastation caused by the widespread rains in Sindh. While talking to the rain victims during his whirlwind tour of the affected areas of Shikarpur and Jacobabad he said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government had stood firm with them in this testing time. No efforts would be spared to extend relief to the victims, he maintained. He said that he was equally grieved over the loss of lives caused by the colossal rains and shared the grief with the haris. He said that the Sindh government had already imposed a rain emergency in several districts of the province following heavy rains, leaving more than 50 people dead in two days. He said that he had already directed the shifting of the rain victims to safer places where they would be provided with shelter, food and medical treatment. He stressed upon the provincial ministers, MNAs, MPAs, office-bearers and workers of the PPP to take part in the relief activities and supervise the relief work so that affected people may not suffer any more. The late moonsoon rains had hit the northern areas of Sindh including Sukkur, Khairpur Mir’s, Larkana, Jacobabad, Kashmore-Kandhkot and Ghotki where record level of rain had been registered so far.
