Can’t verify Afridi’s torture claims: US

The United States on Tuesday said it cannot at the moment verify the authenticity of a reported interview of a Pakistani doctor, Shakil Afridi but the State Department said if proven authentic, Washington would find allegations of torture “extremely concerning”.
“Frankly, we can’t at this point verify the authenticity of the interview. If we do find it is authentic though, then the allegations would be extremely concerning.” State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said at the daily briefing.
