Monsoon rains expose vulnerability of newly-constructed road

The recent series of monsoon rains has completely exposed the poor quality of a road recently completed with the cost of Rs 150 million.
The road constructed from Rehmanabad to Holy Family Hospital (5th road) had started showing signs of damage at various spots right from Rehmanabad to Holy Family Hospital, but the authorities concerned had completely ignored the serious violations of road construction rules by the contractor.
Rain water was seen accumulating at various damage spots of the 5th road. A new entrant to the area would definitely think that the road had been constructed years ago, said a resident Ashfaq Ahmed. The median of the road presents an ugly look as the contractor had affixed tough tiles on it instead of growing grass and flowers in its place, he said.
Residents demanded from the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to take notice of the negligence and punish those involved in embezzlement of construction funds.
