Four members of a family drowned in Qila Saifullah while at least a dozen villages were flooded in Layyah district after heavy rainfall on Saturday. Two men and two women drowned as water level in Mach stream in Qila Saifullah overflowed due to recent rains and inundated hundred of acres of land. Zohb Commissioner Ikhtiyar Khan Bangalzai said the situation in the affected areas was under control and outflow of water from Amakzai Dam has been increased so that no streams and rivers overflow upstream of the dam. He added that rescue teams have been dispatched to affected areas. Meanwhile, flashfloods in river Indus inundated 10 villages in district Layyah, damaging crops and displacing cattle. According to reports, at least 100 houses and thousands of acres have been destroyed by floodwater. The residents of the villages have been shifted to safer areas by rescue teams, and the provincial government has ordered the districts chiefs of revenue and health departments to ensure timely and adequate provision of healthcare, food and shelter for the displaced people.
