ANP rejects Sindh People’s Local Government Ordinance

The Awami National Party (ANP) has rejected the Sindh People’s Local Government Ordinance (SPLGO) 2012. In a statement issued on Friday, ANP spokesman Zahid Khan said, “An ordinance which is not acceptable by the people of Sindh, will be unacceptable to his party as well.” ANP’s Shahi Syed also expressed reservations over local bodies system’s revival Talking to reporters in Karachi on Friday, he said it was beyond understanding that the government had revived the local bodies’ system when three provinces had rejected it. He said the PPP-MQM decision was against different communities living in Sindh.
Under the new system Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpur Khas and Larkana are given status of divisions. Mayors would head the metropolitan corporations of all five divisions. Karachi’s 18 towns have been restored. The system has also removed the urban, rural divide. The two parties have also incorporated roles of both commissioners and administrators. Remaining part of the province would have 18 district councils to be run under the Commissionerate System. Meanwhile‚ the ANP and the Muslim League Functional have convened their meetings to discuss the new local bodies system and decide their stance on it.
