The Awami National Party (ANP) has rejected the Sindh People’s Local Government Ordinance (SPLGO) 2012. In a statement issued on Friday, ANP spokesman Zahid Khan said, “An ordinance which is not acceptable by the people of Sindh, will be unacceptable to his party as well.” ANP’s Shahi Syed also expressed reservations over local bodies system’s revival Talking to reporters in Karachi on Friday, he said it was beyond understanding that the government had revived the local bodies’ system when three provinces had rejected it. He said the PPP-MQM decision was against different communities living in Sindh.
Under the new system Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpur Khas and Larkana are given status of divisions. Mayors would head the metropolitan corporations of all five divisions. Karachi’s 18 towns have been restored. The system has also removed the urban, rural divide. The two parties have also incorporated roles of both commissioners and administrators. Remaining part of the province would have 18 district councils to be run under the Commissionerate System. Meanwhile‚ the ANP and the Muslim League Functional have convened their meetings to discuss the new local bodies system and decide their stance on it.

  1. When the elected members take a decision, should it not be implemented, why we keep on asking and involving Supreme Court and at the same say that the judiciary is biased, if the elected members keep on taking decisions for personal benefit and ignore the electoral, they themselves defy the democratic norms and allow room for non-democratic forces. These so called democratic parties should be banned from politics and excluded from mainstream political process. Pakistan is in a great quagmire of issues and such non-democratic political parties are responsible for these issues. If PML-F and ANP are not willing to accept LG ordinance they should record their protest rather than adopting non democratic ways to undermine democracy.
