Members of the National Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution paying tributes to the armed forces of Pakistan, and recognizing their sacrifices.
Members praised the role and the sacrifices of the armed forces during the 45th session of the National Assembly that opened with a delay of one hour under National Assembly Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi.
MNAs said all sectarian differences should be put aside for the sake of the country. They also criticized those greedy generals who had appeared in the power corridors illegally.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the sacrifices rendered by the armed forces brought prosperity to the nation as well as the country.
Keeping in view the Defense Day, Malik said all political parties should put aside their political affiliations and motives, and should join hands for the sake of the country.
Malik said a great conspiracy was under progress against the country, which would soon be uncovered, along with the elements behind it.
The interior minister said he had written to the prime minister requesting him to summon an in-camera session of the House so that he might take the House on board over the issue.
He said no one liked Pakistan holding the nuclear power and the main focus of anti-Pakistan forces was its nuclear program.
About growing sectarianism in the country, Malik said there was no Shia-Sunni divide in reality, but only a few anti-state elements had deliberately promoted these to destroy national sovereignty.
He warned that more serious strikes could be expected in Peshawar and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
“I salute all those soldiers who have made sacrifices for the sake of the country,” Malik concluded.
Defense Minister Naveed Qamar presented a resolution to express solidarity with the armed forces and to recognize their sacrifices made while defending the country. The resolution was passed by the members of the National Assembly with consensus.
PML-N Chief Whip Shiekh Aftab Ahmed termed the day important when the armed forces defended the motherland bravely and destroyed the plans of the Indian army to conquer Lahore within two days in 1965. Syed Asif Hasnain of the MQM, and Zafar Ali Shah of the PPP praised the armed forces and acknowledged their sacrifices for the sake of the country.
Praising the role of the armed forces in the war against terrorism, Shah highlighted that armed forces were accomplishing the difficult task while countering terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“We should be least concerned with other countries and should focus on threats on our borders,” Shah urged.
Advocate Pervaiz Khan of the ANP stressed that the sacrifices made by the public in defending the country should also be remembered along with remembering the sacrifices made by the army.
The ANP MNA said all the differences with the neighboring countries should be redressed in a peaceful manner as war never proved to be a sustainable solution to any problem.
PML-N’s Qudsia Arshad declared the armed forces an asset of the country that had protected it whenever the need arose.
Praising the role of the armed forces in stabilizing the country, Akhunzada Chittan said the army was engaging with the internal enemies of the state which was a difficult task.
Its about darn time you appreciate what these men and women do while you sit around and suck billions from the same people the army gives their lives for.
