Government has dropped another energy bombshell on the people as NEPRA has hiked power tariff at the rate ranging between 0.99 paisas to Rs 1.14 per unit. The increased tariff will take effect from August. The raise in power tariff has been notified. As per NEPRA notification, increase in the tariff has been made for the month of August due to enhancement in the cost of production of electricity because public sector power thermal power plants were producing less electricity in proportion to consumption of furnace oil.
This increased production cost up to Rs 21.37 per unit. The notification said the increase had been made due to increase in furnace oil prices. The increase has been allowed in the power tariff of Jamshoro Power Company and Northern Power Generation Company. Sources said the increase has been made in fuel adjustment surcharge.
