Ex-income tax commissioner shot dead

Unidentified gunmen on Thursday killed a retired income tax commissioner Mumtaz Sheikh outside his residence in Defence area of the city. According to police sources, Sheikh was going somewhere when he was shot dead. Tension prevailed in the area after the incident. The gunmen managed to flee from the scene.
Police arrest 28 accused in 24 hours: The Karachi police in their on-going drive against criminals arrested 28 accused during the past 24 hours. A police statement on Thursday said that those arrested included six absconders while five accused were `caught red-handed’. It said that two gangs of alleged criminals were busted by the police and that two policemen had also lost their lives. In all, 10 pistols and one SMG recovered from the possession of the accused, the police statement further pointed out.
