The Neighbourhood and Village level of the Punjab Sports and Youth Festival which is the first phase of the three-month long activity has entered into its final phase.
The Neighbourhood and Village level started in 36 districts of the province on August 26 with competitions being held in athletics, badminton, volleyball, cricket tape ball, billiard and arm wrestling while the general category competitions included naat khani and qirat.
All over the province on day 11, on Wednesday, around 200,000 youngsters took part in 541 events of the PYF and from about 6790 blocks and localities of 1435 Sports and Youth Development Councils saw over 40,000 winning in different competitions.
In Lahore, the nine towns were involvement of 16 UCs and 100 blocks in 35 events with participation of 1500 and out of them 541 won their matches and games. Wagha Town was most active in these Festival competitions where 270 people participated in arm wrestling, badminton, billiard, tug of war and athletics in the morning while the rain that hit the city and most parts of the province marred the outfield activities. Wagha’s three towns got 20 blocks involved in the six competitions.
In Wahga Town, Union council 62, Cricket Tape ball matches were held in which Asif XI beat Javed XI match while in Union council 65, Jameel XI defeated Javed XI while Irfan club beat Ishtiaq club with a similar margin of three wickets. In the Volleyball tournaments at union council 65, Super Volleyball club was declared winner against their neighbor Superior Club team.
In Iqbal Town’s union council 148 and 149, 85 players from both union councils participated in tug of war competitons and union council 148 got the victory 2-0. In athletics events the same UC’s Ali Nawaz won the 100 metres race. In Billiard, union council 148, Atif Kamal, Waqar, and Imran succeeded. Muzammil, Sethi and Zeeshan from union council 149 were victorious in arm wrestling. In the Cricket Tape ball at union council 148, Imran Munna XI and Iqbal XI won the matches by 3 wickets against Iqbal A. In the Arm Wrestling, Khurram Shehzad team won Tug of War while in union council 149, Sultan and Muzammil won their badminton competitions.
Meanwhile, the competitions at the Gulberg Town concluded with win coming in the way of 100 participants from a total of 200 on the final day. On the final day, two UCs of the town had nine blocks competing in four events. At Shalimar Town, union council 46, Cricket tapeball matches, Angoori Bagh won by 6 wickets. In Arm Wrestling, Naveed from Block 6, Mohammed Nadeem from Block 18, Ghulam Hussain and Waqas, Muneer Khan and Muzammil from block 10 won the events. In Badminton, Shafeeq and Ghulam Hussain won the doubles matches against Naveed and Shahid 20-16 and 20-15.
On the other hand competitions continued in the other districts of Lahore with Sheikhupura having 2170 participants in 35 events. They were from 24 UCs and 91 blocks while in Kasur 65 UCs took part in the in 27 events and the participants from 91 blocks competed in all the seven events of the first phase. And in Nankana Sahib 1200 took part in 20 events and 733 won top honours. Similarly, in the other districts of the province, as Dera Ghazi Khan was the most active of all on the day with the mass participation of around 85000. They were from 167 UCs and 727 blocks and 5126 won their matches held in 42 competitions of different category.
In Rawalpindi, 55 events were held among 320 blocks of 136 S&YDCs and 1569 were the winners. Around 7011 participants from Sargodha competed in 48 events and 1925 were the winners from 203 blocks of 87 UCs. Likewise Gujranwala had 11381 participants, Faisalabad 35558 and Multan 20901.
