Leaders of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-N held talks on Thursday on the new accountability law.
Talking to the media after the conclusion of the meeting, PML-N leader Ishaq Dar said the meeting was held under a single-point agenda which only discussed the proposed accountability bill.
He said that the PPP leaders have provided them a copy of the amended law, adding the PML-N leadership will first review the document and then will propose amendments, if there are any.
“It is a lengthy document, we will review it first and then we will decide whether this can be passed unanimously before the end of present government tenure,” Dar said.
Dar said that no discussions were held on the government-backed commission on creating new provinces in Punjab, adding it was beyond their mandate as the PPP team came today on a single-point agenda.
PPP leader Syed Khursheed Shah said that the government wants to enact the new accountability law with consensus.
He said they will also discuss holding of general elections with the PML-N leadership.
PPP was represented by Farooq Naek, Khursheed Shah and Naveed Qamar while from the PML-N side Ishaq Dar and Khawaja Asif took part in the meeting.
The PPP-PML-N talks had been postponed twice in as many days due to non-availability of Khursheed Shah.
