The doctors from all three allied hospitals of the city staged a protest rally on the Benazir Bhutto Road to press for the implementation of a service structure and other demands on the appeal of the Young Doctors Association (YDA).
YDA Rawalpindi Chairman Dr Ghulam Abbas, Dr Junaid, and Dr Waleed led the rally in which senior doctors from all three allied hospitals i.e. BB Hospital, Holy Family Hospital and DHQ Hospital as well as the doctors from Basic Health Units (BHUs) from other tehsils of Rawalpindi took part.
The protestors not only chanted slogans in favor of their demands but also carried out a sit in on the busiest road linking Rawalpindi and Islamabad for two hours, which created a severe traffic jam on BB Road. The vehicles moving towards Islamabad tried to use the adjoining streets as alternate routes but created a traffic mess in the streets which irked the citizens.
While addressing the rally, the doctors said that the Punjab government had completely failed to fulfill its promises regarding the service structure of the doctors.
They said that the Lahore High Court (LHC) gave clear-cut instructions to the Punjab government which was committing the contempt of court on a regular basis by underplaying the court’s orders. They said that in spite of the protests, the doctors were performing their duties in all the government run hospitals as per their routine.
