A prominent commander of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), believed to be shot dead in a conflict with relatives, has returned to his hideout in the remote Tirah Valley after completing medical treatment.
A couple of days ago, Tariq Afridi, who commands the TTP Dara Adam Khel chapter, was reported killed in a conflict with his close relatives. But Pakistan Today has come to know through his close relatives that Afridi had sustained serious injuries as a result of firing in Khyber Agency. One of his aides was killed in the dispute.
Sources said that the seriously injured Afridi was shifted to North Waziristan, where the Taliban arranged a surgery for him under the supervision of expert medical professionals. The Taliban use both threats and rewards to summon highly qualified physicians and surgeons from all over the country to Waziristan for the treatment of their fellow fighters and commanders.
Upon the completion of his treatment, Afridi returned to his house in the remote Tirah Valley, where he is reportedly living with his newly-wed third wife. His third wife belongs to the Toor Chapper area of Darra Adam Khel.
While his first wife is his cousin from Mazeedkhel Boryaan, the second wife belongs to Bara, Khyber Agency. His brothers-in-law from Bara tried to prevent the TTP commander from contracting third marriage, however, the argument turned violent and resulted in exchange of firing. The TTP commander’s first and second wives are residing in Boryaan Mazeedkhel with his relatives. Several relatives of Afridi, including brothers, have an influential role in the tribal-politico circles of narrow tribal strife of Darra Adam Khel.
Tariq is considered one of the active commanders of the TTP, and his group recently reconciled with the banned Lashkar-e-Islam (LI) group headed by Mangal Bagh. The LI holds a strong position in the plains of Bara and the mountainous region of Tirah.
