Mass participation gives venues a festivity look

All the venues of the Neighbour and Village level of the Punjab Youth Festival presented a look of festivity on the tenth day of the event across the province on Tuesday due to mass participation of people. As the 55200 Sports and Youth Development Council members are getting actively involved in all the events of the mega activity, the competitions are being keenly-contested and are getting interesting. In all the 36 districts of the province, another 164483 members of S&YDCs took part in 509 events. A total of 6135 localities of 1419 union councils got involved in athletics, volleyball, badminton, tug of war and arm wrestling and in naat khani and qirat competitions. It must be kept in mind that the Neighbourhood and Village level is the first phase of the PYF which have six levels of competitions. After each level of competition a selection committee will be selecting the best performers from among the best players and those selected players will compete in the next level of the Festival.
In Lahore alone, 13 UCs on the nine towns took part in 29 events and from among 10180 participants 509 won their matches and competitions. In Shalimar, Aziz Bhatti and Iqbal Towns more than 400 youngsters took part and overall 63 blocks of nine towns had competitions in sports events only.
In Aziz Bhatti Town, Mohammed Kashif beat Mohammed Ali while in Billiard, Union Council 59, Mohamed Ahmed defeated Atiq and Mohammed Atiq outplayed Tanveer in block 204. In Union council 55, Cricket Tapeball matches were held in which Ali XI beat Teepoo XI, Shokat XI defeated Maqsood XI whereas Sadiq XI beat Shahbaz XI.
In the Arm wrestling, union council 59, Muzammil beat Attiq, Mohammed Noman, Abbas beat Mohammed Asif. In the second macth, Mohammed Qasim beat Bilal while Hafiz Ali beat Jabran. In Shalimar Town,Athletics events,100 m race was won by Ali Awais of Union council 36 .In the same union council ,Rohan Butt from Mohalla Singhpura beat Tahir. In the Cricket Tapeball matches, Madina colony trounced Block No.3.In the Arm Wrestling ,union council 36,Asif defeated Ali Awais.In Ganj Bax Town,Union council 73,the Badminton tournaments in which Rameez XI beat Butt XI .Kacha Nisbat road XI and Gawalmandi XI were the winners. In Arm Wrestling, Fazal Butt ,Naveed Khan ,Rauf Bari,Intezar Hussain and Adil Umer outplayed the opposition.
In Township, Union council 133, Cricket Tapeball matches: Usman XI beat Hassan XI,Kashif XI beat Ahmed XI.In Billiard:M.Azeem and Salman Asghr ,In Badminton: Zohaib Shahid ,Zuber shahzad and Ahsan Ali while in Arm Wrestling: Haji Imtiaz,Ahmed and Shahid Anjum were victorious. In the other districts of Lahore like Kasur there were 2726 competed in 24 events while 1386 were the winners. In Rawalpindi division, over 500 participated in 52 events while 283 blocks got involved from 142 UCs and 2198 had ultimate honour.
Once again Bhakkar got active participation where 5596 S&YDCs members from 136 blocks competed in 13 events with 1286 moving to the next round while an overall of 6724 participated from all the whole of Sargodha.
Gujranwala had 21866 peopled involved in the activity and Faisalabad had 18607’s participation. In Faisalabad city, 9193 members of eight towns took part in 51 events. These participants were from 140 UCs 508 blocks. In Toba Tek Singh there were 7142 participants, Multan got 32109 registered for the day to compete, Bahawalpur had 9965 registered for the day and Dera Ghazi Khan have involvement of 58179 in different events.

SBP to hold health, dengue awareness walk

The Sports Board Punjab as part of the ongoing Punjab Youth and Sports Festival is holding a walk here on September 9 to create awareness about the importance of sports and clean environment and better health. The walk is likely to be led by Deputy Speaker Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan from Liberty Chawk to Hafeez Centre and scores of people from different walks of the society will participate in it. “It is a very healthy activity which will focus on highlighting the importance of the sports for the creation of a healthy society besides creating awareness among people to contribute in a clean environment for a better life style to fight against dengue,” said a spokesman of Sports Board Punjab here on Tuesday. T-shirts and caps will be distributed among the participants of the walk.
