The country is producing 12,340 megawatt (MW) of electricity against the demand of 17,200 MW due to which the citizens have to endure long hours of load shedding. The electricity shortfall in the country once again jumped to 5,200MW as the government had failed to clear their account with the oil companies. According to sources, power plants had been supplied with 24,000 tonnes of furnace oil instead of 39,000 tonnes. The load shedding hours in the urban areas had increased to 14-16 hours while in the rural areas power cuts were carried out for 16-18 hours.
