Pakistan Meteorological Department’s (PMD) Director Dr Muhammad Hanif on Monday said that monsoon winds engulfing the northern parts of the country will start to blow southwards this week causing widespread rains across the country. “Monsoon period has entered into its last phase which will be more active and bring widespread rains during this week,” he told reporters. He said that an intense weather system is developing over Bay of Bengal and it will enter in Pakistan through Central India. He added that scattered rain/thunderstorm is expected in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir on Tuesday and Wednesday. Widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Eastern Balochistan from Thursday to Sunday. To a question, Dr Hanif said that floods were not expected anywhere so far, however the National Weather Forecasting Center (NWFC) Islamabad and all Regional Centers would be closely monitoring the situation in coming days.
