The General Cadre Doctors Association (GCDA) Executive Committee and provincial council in a meeting discussed the association’s progress in court and in service structure committee.
Punjab GCDA office bearers and provincial council members attended the meeting. GCDA announced that the demands agreed upon by the government will remove the sense of deprivation prevalent in the cadre and long standing demands of promotion will be fulfilled. They demanded that the government should not unnecessarily delay the announcement of the package.
Dr Sheikh briefed that during a meeting chaired by Senator Ishaq Dar, many of the demands of general cadre doctors had been approved .He added that the committee had finally agreed in principal on the demand of dilating the percentage formula to a new 42: 36:19:3, which, though less than the demand of GCDA, was better then the existing service structure. The committee had agreed in principal that promotion of doctors should start from the seniors, and the promotion in grade 19 and 20 will be awarded to those general cadre doctors who have a total service period of 12 years and 15 years respectively. As for grades 17 and 18 promotion would be granted after a service of five years on availability of seats.
The window of cadre seats would remain open with50 percent seats of specialist & 25 percent seats of the teaching cadre reserved for general cadre doctors.
