Caretaker PM should be from smaller province: Nawaz

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif on Monday suggested the appointment of a caretaker prime minister from one of the smaller provinces of the country. A meeting of the PML-N headed by Nawaz discussed various issues, including the country’s political situation, formation of interim government and new provinces.
PML-N Senator Ishaq Dar took the meeting into confidence over talks held with a team from the government.
It was decided during the meeting the PML-N would not become part of commission on new provinces. The party leaders said the government should form a national commission for carving out new provinces if it was serious in its efforts. The meeting also gave approval of the suggestion that the caretaker PM should be taken from a smaller province.
Meanwhile, PML-N Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal said the government had made the new provinces issue controversial by forming the commission unilaterally.
Talking to reporters after the PML-N core committee meeting, Ahsan said the government was not serious about forming new provinces.
Ahsan lamented that the resolution of Punjab Assembly was neglected and rejected the government’s offer of holding local bodies election before the general election. He called lawlessness in Karachi a clear evidence of the failure of the government. Ahsan said the party had also decided to continue protests against the recent hike in POL prices inside and outside parliament.
The PML-N meeting was attended by Raja Zafarul Haq, Ishaq Dar, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Amir Muqqam, Zafar Iqbal Jhagra, Tehmina Daultana, Mehtab Khan Abbasi and others senior leaders. Separately in an interview with a newly-launched newspaper, Nawaz said the forthcoming polls would bring a “big change” in the country. Criticizing the rulers, he said the present government had led the nation to economic degradation and moral degeneration.
“In such circumstances, establishment of a government truly representative of the masses has become a dire need of the hour. Only such a government can bring the nation out of darkness, poverty and extremism,” Nawaz said.
He said the PML-N was the only political party that not only had a plan but a competent team of committed and patriotic members to execute that plan.
