The Punjab government is set to spend Rs 4 billion in the IT sector during the current fiscal year.
The amount will be utilized for the completion of 14 development schemes of which nine are under completion and five new projects would initiated soon.
A multi-storey Technology Park is already functioning and the department is developing an IT infrastructure and database centre to connect government departments and districts for better governance through a common gateway. Incubator centers for IT firms to provide training are also on the government’s agenda. computerisation of counter terrorism department is forecasted to be completed in 2012-2013. Completion of the projects, sources said, will help enhance domestic and foreign investment in the IT sector through collaboration of noted firms like Oracle, Microsoft, Intel and IBM.
