The Lahore High Court (LHC) stopped the Punjab government to purchase 1200 buses from foreign countries till next orders.
A bench of LHC headed by its Chief Justice Ijazul Hassan heard the petition filed by Gujranwala Tour Company against the Punjab government.
The petitioner’s lawyer, Tafazal Rizvi, told the court that the provincial government wants to sell costly imported buses to transporters on installments basis. He was of the view that the new buses would have Toyo engines while only euro quality diesel was available in Pakistan which would minimize the life of engines.
He said that keeping in view the situation, the court should stop the Punjab government to cancel its decision of purchasing new buses.
The court issuing stay orders regarding purchase of buses directed the Punjab government to submit reply over the issue on September 17.
