At least six suspected militants were killed and several others injured when a US drone fired four missiles on a compound and a vehicle in Deegan village of Data Khel tehsil in North Waziristan Agency on Saturday.
Official in Miranshah said four people were killed on the spot, while two succumbed to injuries later.
They said Taliban militants had set up a hideout in an abandoned house that was targeted by the US drone. A vehicle in the premises of the compound was also hit by the missiles. Rescue activities started a while later for fear of four drones that kept hovering in the air for some time.
The identity of those killed and injured has not been determined so far, but the officials and locals believed the deceased included foreign fighters.
Meanwhile, a police officer informed Pakistan Today that the target of Friday’s car bombing in Peshawar was Dosali Political Tehsildar Hasham Gul. Gul was among the 12 people killed in the Mattni car bomb explosion in Peshawar on Friday.
Beside Gul, his son, brother and cousin were also killed in the bomb explosion. They were laid to rest in various graveyards on Saturday. The police source said Gul was on leave in his village Mattni and he was in the bazaar with relatives when unidentified militants parked the explosives-laden pick up truck along his vehicle.
The truck was detonated just as Gul was getting into his vehicle.
