Delay in FIR registration won’t be tolerated: IG

Sindh Inspector General of Police Sindh Fayyaz Ahmed Leghari has directed the officials concerned to ensure registration of computerized FIRs in all the police stations of Karachi on completion of computer networking under the e.policing project, said a press release issued here on Saturday. He directed to install complaint boxes at the offices of district SSPs and divisional SPs and ensure availability of printed FIR forms as well as setting up of committees under the supervision of SSPs so that police officials included in these committees could scrutinise all the complaints and FIR forms dropped by citizens in the complaint boxes and transmute the cognizable complaints into formal FIRs. The IGP asked the Additional Inspector General of Police Karachi to compile a comprehensive report on the suggestions and recommendations made by SSPs through mutual consultations and submit the same to him for his information. He warned the SHOs of all police stations that any delay in registration of FIRs will be seriously viewed and they will be liable for strict disciplinary action. He said the purpose of installation of complaint boxes at SSPs and SPs and provision of FIR forms on Police website was to restore public confidence in Police.
