Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) said on Friday that a wire break of one of its 220 KV transmission lines had caused the line to trip in on wee hours of August 31. It said the transmission line trip had temporarily affected 18 out of 64 grid stations supplying power to the city.
KESC said the temporary disruption had affected the following grids: Korangi East, Qayyumabad, Airport-2, DHA-1, Creek City, Korangi West, Defence, Gizri, Jacobline, Garden, KCR, Elender road, Queens Road, Lalazar, Old Town, Lyari and West Wharf grid stations.
Immediate mobilization of the task teams, engineers and remedial actions ensured that the power to the majority of the affected grids was restored within an hour. The restoration work to normalize the remaining affected grids had been on full swing, which resulted in 100 percent normalization within the next two hours.
The primary reason for the outage was attributable to a blue phase conductor which had broken near Qayyumabad that led to the tripping of the 220kV KCR-Lalazar circuit-2. KESC further maintained that normalization started soon after restoring supply from Defence, Clifton and Gizri grids by 1:00 am. The circuit was normalized by 7:00 in the morning restoring the remaining grids.
