LHC seeks computerized assessment project budget report

Adjourning the hearing into a plea against awarding a contract to a private company for facilitating boards of intermediate and secondary education in carrying out computerized assessment, the Lahore High Court on Friday again sought a report from BISE by September 4 on budget allocated for it.
The court also sought a report on implementation of recommendations by intermediate results judicial commission.
Justice Ayesha A Malik passed the orders on a petitions filed by BISE Lahore Employees Association through its President Aslam Gujar and others. The petitioners submitted that NIFT had been awarded a contract for computerized assessment system for all examinations of Classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 conducted by all eight boards of intermediate and secondary education in Punjab. The petitioners mentioned that the contract included printing, scanning, OMR, OCR/ICR of bubble sheets, software solution for the processing of over 48 million bubble sheets and assessment of over 6 million students until December 2013. They also mentioned that the boards’ employees could perform work at a cheap cost.
The petitioner alleged that the contract was awarded against PPRA rules, therefore, the matter be forwarded to the National Accountability Bureau for investigation.
