The Neighbourhood and Village level of the Punjab Youth and Sports Festival continued for the sixth successive day on Friday and a heavy programme of boys and girls events was witnessed in the provincial metropolis and other parts of the province.
In certain places where events were marred by the morning rain were conducted in the evening while the indoor competitions continued as planned in which females players also participated with zeal and zest.
In Lahore’s Govt Girls High School Walton Cantt, tug of war event of UC 5 was conducted and Zubina XI beat Rizwana XI 2-0. In another competition of of the same UC, Farzana XI beat Anam XI 2-1.
In badminton competitions, Imrana beat Sadia 20-16. In arm wrestling among girls of UC 8 Imrana beat Azra Parveen while the cricket match between Govt Girls High School Walton Whites and Reds ended in a tie. Mrs Ghazala Saad Rafiq, MPA, and Mian Naseer, MPA, were the chief guest of the girls’ events of the Festival.
In UC 139 badminton event, Sector C.1’s Asif Khokhar beat Mahmood Ahmed 20-8, Mohammad Abid of sector C2 defeated Mohsin 20-17, B 1’s Asif Younas moved past Khokhar 20-10.
Cricket Tapeball, Badminton, Billiard, Athletics, Arm Wrestling and Tug of war were played in UC 100 in which Farooq-e-Azam, Jillani 11, Royal Fighter, Ghazi 11 and Striker 11 won their respective matches. In badminton, Naveed, Jawad and Usman were the winners while in Billiard, Mohammad Atique, Mohammad Shakeel, Mohammad.Umair, Rana Awais and Atif Chohan got their games.
Yasir Akram, Abbas Builder, Ali Zaffar were the winners of Arm Wrestling. In Athletics, 100 m race, Ibrahim Basit, Zeeshan Wahab and Shan Rafique were the winners while Jhang 11 was the winning team of Tug of war.
Meanwhile, nearly another 80,000 members of the Sports and Youth Development Councils took part in the Neighbourhood and Village level of the Festival in just 25 districts of the province. In some of the districts there was exciting competitions and massive participation as Bhakkar alone 7547 youth council members took part in19 events. These youngsters were from 31 councils and 235 blocks and from them 2057 got the honours. In Gujranwala Division, 75 UCs had 631 blocks in action in 35 events with participation of 2860 youngsters and 768 winners.
Today Multan division has mass participation of 10790 from 169 S&YDCs that had 789 blocks participation. From among these blocks 4617 returned smiling. In Khanewal alone, 3922took part in nine events from 3244 blocks of 42 UCs.
In another division of the province which is Dera Ghazi Khan, 1183 blocks of 194 councils has a mass participation of 40242 people and out of those the win came 4934’s way.
