The lack of proper parking facilities in the federal capital has become an acute problem for the commuters at markets and other busy areas of the city.
The oldest and busiest business hubs including Aabpara, Melody Market and Blue area are the worst-hit which remain packed with vehicles during office timings and till late night. Encroachments, improper sewerage system and lack of parking plazas are the major reasons of turning these areas into ugly places with immense difficulties for shoppers and traders. Afnan Ali, a visitor at the Aabpara Market, told APP here on Thursday that due insufficient space he has parked his vehicle away from the market. He said that due to rush of vehicles it takes five to ten minutes to find parking space near the shop where you want to shop.
“The authorities concerned should take serious notice of this issue, which is worsening day by day due to increasing number of vehicles,” he added. Raza Hussain, working in a private firm at Blue Area said, “Thousands of people are working in the offices in multi-storey plazas of Blue Area but lack of parking space in the area is annoying the workers.”
However, in Blue Area there are number of food outlets which remain open, people who regularly visit these places also face difficulties to find parking. Car parking is a major problem being confronted by visitors, who have to wait for longer periods to get a space to park their vehicles. “It takes a lot of time to roam around and find a place for parking,” another visitor in Melody added.
When contacted, the officials of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) said that the authority was aware of the situation and taking steps to address the issue. “The authority is planning to establish multi-purpose parking plazas in the busy shopping centres and all the major markets of the city to provide a separate parking facility for the traders as well as visitors”, he added.
