PAC criticizes interior secretary over absence from meeting

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) showed concern over absence of Federal Secretary Interior Sadiq Akbar from the meeting.
The PAC met in Parliament House under the chair of Nadeem Afzal Chan.
On the inquiry, the Committee Additional Secretary Interior informed that secretary Interior went to Poly Clinic hospital for check up after chest pain and therefore was unable to attend the meeting.
Member of the Committee Hamid Yar Hiraj blamed the secretary was intentionally absent from the meeting. He said federal minister for Interior and his secretary were the same.
He blamed him for remaining unconscious due to access drinking. Mr. Hiraj even suggested committee to visit secretary in hospital to inquire actual situation.
Noor Alam of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) informed that the interior secretary, most of the time, remains absent from the office.
Chairman PAC, Nadeem Afzal Chan warned if secretary will be not available for Committee meeting then PAC will write a letter to speaker National Assembly asking to indemnify him from meetings or take action.
The PAC demanded briefing from interior ministry in next meeting regarding the passport policy.
Earlier, PAC disapproved poor management of accounts of ministry of climate change and its affiliate organisations and instructed them to manage accounts transparently.
