According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, Pakistanis view China as the most friendly and the United States as the most hostile. A nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces was asked. “Among the states listed on this round card which would you consider as Pakistan’s best friend?” Responding to this, 67 percent believed China to be Pakistan’s best friend, 7 percent believed the US, 4 percent believed India, 2 percent believed Russia, 1 percent believed Afghanistan whereas 14 percent believed Iran to be Pakistan’s best friend. In a follow-up question, the respondents were asked, “Among the states listed on this round card which would you consider as Pakistan’s biggest enemy? Responding to this, 49 percent believed the US to be Pakistan’s biggest enemy, 24 percent believed India, 4 percent believed Russia, 4 percent believed Afghanistan, 1 percent believed Iran and 1 percent believed China to be Pakistan’s biggest enemy.
