The position-holders of the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) pre-medical part-II annual examination 2012 have urged to create a peaceful academic environment in the metropolis. In an interview with Pakistan Today on Monday, the toppers linked the academic environment with peace of the city. Samina Ismail Hirani, daughter of Ismail Hirani, student of Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, who bagged first position, said the government should take steps to improve law and order situation of the city to promote academic environment in the city. She said closure of the educational institution amid prevailing law and order situation during academic year causes great loss to routine studies. She urged that the government should take steps to improve law and order situation to avoid unannounced holidays. Samina, who wished to be Oncologist in future, said she does not take tuition from any coaching centre and she got first position after regular self study. She said her father and mothers are doctors too and they are source of inspiration for her. She said there should be uniform education system across the country, adding current curriculum should be revised on modern lines. She also urged for women medical college in the city to facilitate those girls who could not carry medical education due to restrictions by their families to study in co-education institutes. Kiran Amin, daughter of Muhammad Amin, who got second position, said she faced immense difficulties due to closure of college because of bad law and order situation. She said she missed several classes due to confusion that weather the college was open or not due to law and order situation in the city. Kiran Amin, who wished to be a cardiologist in future said the board should focus to make the question paper ‘conceptual’ instead of comprehensive in next annual exam. To a question, she said that all the top three positions were clinched by female candidates, which shows that females are more serious in studies than males. She said that the performance of females in education would help to convert the male-dominant society and help in root-out menace of gender disparity in the country. Kinza Murtaza, daughter of Baber Murtaza, who clinched third position, said that she wished to be cardiologist too. According to her there is no difference in the Cambridge school system of examination and local examination system. She said that the Cambridge school system is designed for those who want to continue their studies abroad to fulfill their requirement. She said that she would serve for poverty-stricken masses of the country after completing her studies.
