Planning Commission opposes Thar coal power project

Opposing the Thar coal power project, the Planning Commission on Tuesday said generating 100 megawatts of electricity using coal was unrealistic. According to the Planning Commission’s report, the project could not be implemented because the heat range of gas produced by the project was 150 BTU which was not sufficient for electricity generation.
On the other hand, the cost of purification plant was $1.35 million per one megawatt that was impossible to execute, a private television channel reported. According to the Planning Commission, production of gas from coal would cost millions of dollars while the electricity production would cost $1.96 per one megawatt.
