National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Admiral (retd) Fasih Bukhari on Tuesday called on Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim and offered assistance to the Election Commission of Pakistan in holding fair polls as per its requirements.
Bukhari, who was accompanied by senior officials of NAB, also shared a few proposals with the CEC for holding free, fair and transparent elections. Election Commission Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmad Khan and other senior ECP officers were also present on the occasion.
During the meeting, the chief election commissioner (CEC) observed that the basic constitutional responsibility of the Election Commission was to conduct free, fair and credible elections, and that the ECP could seek assistance of all the federal and provincial institutions in the discharge of its duties, said a handout issued here.
The CEC appreciated the cooperation offered by the NAB Chairman and said that they would consider these proposals in the light of relevant laws/rules and would explore the possibilities of seeking NAB’s assistance, wherever it was required.
