Directing the Attorney General to submit prosecution evidence within three days, the Supreme Court (SC) Wednesday adjourned the contempt case proceedings against real-estate tycoon Malik Riaz till September 17.
Opening proceedings, the petitioner Ashraf Gujjar raised the objection over the absence of the accused Malik Riaz, saying, “Malik Riaz did not come to the court despite the fact that the court did not exempt him from appearance.”
Malik’s counsel Dr. Abdul Basit pleaded that his client is ailing; that is why, he could not make it to today’s court appearance.
The court remarked his exemption is granted only for today (Wednesday).
Dr. Basit prayed to the court to stay the further proceedings of the case owing to the intra-court appeal. However, the court turned him down.
Talking to media after the hearing, Dr. Basit said doctors in Britain did not allow his client to travel.
Earlier, the court gave three-day time to Attorney General of Pakistan Irfan Qadir to submit prosecution’s evidences and directed also other petitioners to file their evidences as well.
It is a mockery of justice. SC should be thankful that he presented very strong evidence against one of the black sheep in its ranks. Instead, SC has started his victimisation. This nonsense must stop. If Malik Riaz is out of country, he must not return in the presence of present SC. People of the world, expect no justice from SC under Chaudhry Double PCO!!!
